ACE KIDZ - CHILDREN'S SERVICES
We provide support to children and young people who have a range of disabilities and autism, including those who may present behaviours deemed as challenging. This could be during the school day, after school (2 hours and above) across weekends and weekends away, or during the school holidays.
The children and young people we work with may be disadvantaged because of their communication difficulties, challenging behaviours, physical disabilities and/or complex health needs. The impact is they are often socially excluded taking part in mainstream activities with their peers also due to lack of expertise and appropriate facilities which operate in these areas. This often excludes children with disabilities from having community presence and in turn, affects their self-esteem and confidence.
Having physical and learning disabilities disadvantages children and young people from taking part in everyday activities due to needing additional support and healthcare, which may require intrusive personal care and/or medication. Some of the children and young people we work with may come from financially disadvantaged families and do not have the opportunity to go away for a short break, therefore we will aim to support children and young people to have increased access to a few days away with their peers and enjoy a happy fulfilled time, whilst being supported with their additional needs.
Many disabled children/young people have never experienced being away from home before or have opportunities to take part in different social activities unless their parents support them, hence not being given a real opportunity to socialise and make friends outside of their family unit. In turn, we are giving parents and carers a break from their responsibilities, time for working commitments, to reflect and unwind.
